"The Best of Greenwich Village Cabaret II" - June 19, 2003

Nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and along the famous Shenandoah River is an area of the country that is rich in history and beauty. The breathtaking landscapes and rural way of life have produced generations of artists, scholars, historians, musicians, and great American leaders.

In 1997 a non-profit scholarship fund was incorporated to help continue the tradition of enriching the lives and continuing the education of the youth from the Shenandoah Valley area. From the beginning the fund has provided two scholarships.

One is a fine art award to be given at Warren County High School in Front Royal, Virginia. It will go to a graduating senior who has successfully completed course work in high school visual arts and plans to continue studying art in college.  In 2008 we added an award for the new Skyline High School.

Another award is designated for John Handley High School in Winchester, Virginia. The award is designed for a graduating senior who participated in the senior play, music programs, stage productions or classes in art and who also accumulated five seasons of varsity football, wrestling and/or baseball.

As the fund grows, additional scholarships will be awarded. In 1998 the fund established an additional award for photography at Warren County High School. In 1999 a student at John Handley High School received an award based solely on achievement in visual arts of drawing, painting and sculpture.

Some applications require photographs of students' work. Plan ahead. Application deadline is April 21. To obtain an application, write to the Scholarship address, visit the respective school's guidance department or ask the art teacher in each school. Applications can also be downloaded from this site.

Businesses who donate $20 or more will be listed on the scholarship's web site with a link to your business' page. If you would like your business to have its own page on the scholarship's site send a minimum donation of $50 for six months or $100 for a year. Include with your check a copy of an ad, a card or the pertinent information you would like included.

These students worked hard to earn the special recognition they received and with your help we would like to continue honoring more gifted artists who will be graduating in the future.

At this time most of the money raised is from private donations and social events around New York where four of the five scholarship committee members live. Using the words "of New York" in the title makes our task easier. All donations are for WCHS and JHHS. When it comes to helping our youth get an education so little can do so much.
